Yemeni Lawyers Syndicate Condemns Attack on Lawyer and Family in Amran

The Yemeni Lawyers Syndicate has strongly condemned an attempted assassination and shooting incident targeting lawyer Bassam Saleh Ahmed Saad Al-Qahali and his family in the Houthi-controlled governorate of Amran. The syndicate is demanding the swift apprehension of all individuals involved and their referral to the judiciary.

In a statement released on Sunday, August 9, 2026, the syndicate announced it had received a report and complaint from lawyer Bassam Al-Qahali. He stated that he and his family were subjected to intense gunfire in broad daylight, an incident the syndicate described as a serious assault on the rule of law and societal security.

According to the complaint, lawyer Al-Qahali accused Nassim Ali Ali Al-Khudri and others of participating in the assault. The report also named Ahmed Mohammed Ahmed Al-Qahali, known as "Al-Daqsah," as an instigator and director of the attack, along with other unnamed individuals.

The syndicate clarified that the complaint links the attack to the lawyer's professional activities and cases he has undertaken against accused persons. It considers that, if proven true, this would exacerbate the severity of the incident, making it a direct targeting of the legal profession and its role in establishing justice and the rule of law.

The syndicate emphasized that the targeting of a lawyer and his family with firearms in what it described as a retaliatory manner constitutes a violation of the sanctity of human life and a direct threat to the justice system. It warned of the dangers of the continuation of such attacks amidst what it termed a deteriorating security situation in Amran governorate.
